Higgins Soccer Complex

The renovation of the Higgins Soccer Complex was completed in August 2014. This $3 million project was made possible through the leadership and generosity of several individuals, with the single largest gift being contributed by Patrick T. Higgins ’79 and his wife, Julianne Bigelli-Higgins ’80. The renovated complex replaced the natural grass with two FIFA approved artificial turf playing surfaces. The game field, Campolo Field, was made possible by the generosity of Joseph P. Campolo ’90. The adjacent practice field, Zimmermann Field, was named in memory of William F. Zimmermann ’15 by the Higgins’ family. The new complex also includes a soccer scoreboard donated by Peter M. Harding ’91, team shelters, a media perch and ball blocking system. The field is located on Villanova’s West Campus, adjacent to the Villanova Tennis Complex and near the West Campus residence complex, serves as the home field and practice facility for the men’s and women’s soccer teams. With a seating capacity of 1,500, this facility is one of the best in the BIG EAST. The facility is surrounded by a stone retaining wall and decorative aluminum fencing. This renovation not only has a significant impact on our men’s and women’s soccer programs, but also improves field availability year-round for other varsity programs, as well as intramurals, club sport and other events like Special Olympics.
